Triangle Coalition Brainstorm

On March 24, 2009 the coalition launched with public brainstorming for the centennial in 2011. Below are some of the ideas that were collected. If you have something to add please comment – we want to hear from you!

Let’s start with a communally created poem organized by Adelphi Students

- Use this historical event to bring change to the sweatshops worldwide to encourage governments to enforce good working condition and to cause international businesses to want to follow safety standards

- Never forget the innocent lives of workers lost

- Bring family members of those who died to the centennial from near & far

- Remember that everyday is precious and love unconditionally all humanity. Prayer.

- Solidarity activities with contemporary immigrant workers in nyc

- R.I.P.
Veniero’s Pastry shop never forgot as a current owner I will make sure that we will always be aware of illegal sweatshops and stop them in their tracks – Robert Veniero

- Never forget

- Reenactment of city-wide meeting after the fire Rose Schneiderman will speak, WTUL reps., etc.

- How have labor conditions changed? AN exhibit about the fire and a display of their conditions, and how its shaped factories after the incident.

- Something, an event connecting women’s working conditions then & now: what has changed for many working class immigrant women?

- An exploration of text from 1911 & contemporary women/sweatshop workers…

- Something that commemorates + teaches people that all that we are, all levels, regulations etc. re: labor
work conditions, progressive politics grows out of these women’s sacrifice that there will be a memorial listing names and ages somewhere.

- I would love for an organization to be formed to help immigrant workers who need a voice for better working conditions

- I would like to see a group of 146 fine artist from Italy, Russia + US show their work in a nyc gallery. Each artist would dedicate their work t a victim of the fire. Works would be donated & auctioned off for the start of the organization mentioned above. Thank you Ruth Sergel – S.B.H.
