Berkeley City College Remembers the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire and Immigrant Women Workers

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire in New York City where 146 garment workers, mostly young immigrant women, died. Berkeley City College, as part of a nationwide coalition, hosts an evening to remember the fire victims and the history of the US labor movement as well as keep present immigrant worker’s rights today.
Free & Open to the Public

• 3pm, Street Writing Memorial
Meet in front of BCC entrance: Come chalk names of fire victims around a city block

• 6:30-8:30pm, BCC Auditorium (Room 21)
The evening will include local scholars and authors presenting an overview of the fire and the influence it had on fire safety laws and the labor movement, brief film screenings, and poetry readings.
Sew a personalized Mourning Ribbon to take home as a memorial to this important history.
