An in-depth view of the times, causes, and consequences of the collapse and ensuing conflagration of the Pemberton Mill in Lawrence, January 10, 1860. Over 100 workers lost their lives and scores more were badly hurt. The mill’s collapse and fire was the 19th century’s worst industrial accident.
