March 25, 2011 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Free

Experimental Geography in Practice!

In the morning (10am – 12noon) we will be in or around Cooper Square (Cooper Union), in the afternoon (12-2PM) we will be around the site of the Triangle Fire itself, near Washington Pl. and Greene Street, in the Village.

We are a mobile project, so please text or call on March 25th to find our exact location! 646-644-8283

Terrible Karma is a mobile installation mixing voices of Triangle fire survivors, recordings of mega-scale garment factories in China, and protest songs by present-day garment workers in Bangladesh and Cambodia. Sounds and images will be projected inside a truck at various New York locations, allowing passers-by to enter its claustrophobic confines.

“Terrible Karma,” originally a protest song sung by female garment workers in Phnom Penh, encompasses the idea that injustices of the garment industry past haunt the present. The artists — Adeola Enigbokan and Merle Patchett — explore the conditions in which garment workers continue to live, work and die.

The work takes to the streets on March 25th, 2011!
