I knew from the time I was very young that beautiful Aunt Daisy had died in a fire, but not until I entered NYU as an undergraduate did I learn the name and location of the Triangle Factory. Once I retired, I finally had time to write a history of the Jamaican Lopez and to research the life and death of Daisy Lopez Fitze, a bride of ten weeks, who perished in that terrible conflagration. The essay, “A Flower for Daisy” is part of a longer work entitled They Were Legal: Balzac y Lopez, The History of an Hispanic Family, New York 1901-1960.
