Joseph Zito was 27 at the time of the Triangle fire. A hero of the fire, he operated the elevator in the Asch building rescuing many girls from the top floors, until the flames burned the cables of the elevator. His descendants in the Fazio family learned about the fire from their mother Mary Josephine Cardinali-Fazio, who knew Joseph and had very vivid memories of attending his wake in 1932 when she was 11 years old.
