April 25, 1911

Brother Baldwin, a member of the Christian Brothers of the LaSalle Institute at Second Avenue and 2nd Street, near Nativity parish, received an invitation to Pompei’s April 26 Mass because he and his colleagues taught Sunday School at Pompei, along with parish girls organized into a “sodality” or religious organization, called the Daughters of Mary. He sent his regrets, explaining “I was eyewitness to this awful tragedy and can never forget its horrors.”
