SUMMARY:Free Virtual Screening of 'LILLY' In Honor of Women's History Month
DESCRIPTION:Timed to honor March 25th’s Equal Pay Day\, Workers Unite Film Festival presents a pre-theatrical release of LILLY: a powerful dramatic film based on the remarkable true story of working-class hero\, Lilly Ledbetter\, a hard-working Alabama tire factory supervisor whose singular goal is to lift her family into the middle class. Having grown up in poverty\, she endures a work environment plagued by pervasive harassment for the sake of the best paycheck in the county. As retirement approaches\, Lilly discovers that the system had been cheating her\, paying her close to half of what the men with the same jobs were earning. Outraged\, Lilly fights this injustice to the Supreme Court\, the corridors of Congress and eventually The White House all while powerful forces try to shut her down. LILLY follows the transformation of an ordinary citizen into the face of an issue\, illuminating the impact a single\, courageous person can have. \n\n\n\nOn Demand Through March 28th (Fri 10pm ET) \n\n\n\nWatch film here.

SUMMARY:Chalk for the Triangle Workers
DESCRIPTION:Each year since 2004\, on the anniversary of the infamous blaze\, volunteers fan out across the city to inscribe in chalk the names and ages of the Triangle dead in front of their former homes. \n\n\n\nIf you’re interested in participating this year\, sign up here\, and read the following note from Chalk and Coalition founder Ruth Sergel: \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDear Beloved Community – In 1911 the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire took the lives of 146 young workers\, most of them immigrant women and girls. Please join CHALK in standing for the Triangle workers by inscribing their names and ages in front of their former homes\, making their lives visible across our city. Starting this year CHALK will be run by the venerable Tenement Museum. I’m thrilled an institution so fiercely committed to the layered history of our city will lead Chalk into the future. If you want to feel hopeful about the world\, give them a visit down on Orchard Street.Sign up for CHALK 2025 here: bit.ly/Chalk2025Kat Lloyd is leading the CHALK team at Tenement. This is their first year\, so if you hit a glitch or have an idea – – she wants to hear from you!  Contact Kat: chalk@tenement.orgIf you’ve chalked before\, you’re already skilled at claiming public space to demand justice – that’s a great tool to have! I’ve listed some events and resources below that might be of interest. Remember: the false powers wouldn’t be acting so crazy if they weren’t already losing. These regimes come on strong\, but they are brittle and they always fall. Always. Our diverse\, equitable and inclusive future is coming. Thank you for refusing to accept injustice one hundred years ago or today and for building our strong and resilient community.See you in the streets!– Ruth

SUMMARY:The Triangle Fire: Response\, Reform and Reverberations
DESCRIPTION:When: Tuesday\, March 25\, 2025\, 6:30PM – 8:00PM ET \n\n\n\nEvent Location: In-Person at WNYC’s Greene Space 44 Charlton St\, New York\, NY 10014and also Virtual on YouTube Live \n\n\n\nCost: Free; Suggested Donation \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn March 25\, 1911 a fire erupted at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory\, killing 146 workers. In its wake\, reformers\, union activists and politicians banded together to form the Factory Investigating Committee which succeeded in recommending dozens of laws to improve working conditions and protect labor. \n\n\n\nOn this anniversary\, Shaina Taub\, the creator of Suffs\, brings to life the voices of Clara Lemlich\, Rose Schneiderman and Frances Perkins\, women who organized for reform. WNYC’s Amina Srna moderates a conversation with historians Annelise Orleck\, Annie Polland\, and Margaret Chin\, author of Sewing Women.  Join us on March 25th — in person at WNYC’s Greene Space or online on YouTube Live — as we memorialize the victims and explore the labor movement and cross-class alliances\, including the 1982 Chinatown Strike\, that led to monumental change. \n\n\n\nMore info and registration here.
