About the exhibition:

WE ARE ONE
The 1982 International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union Strike

WE ARE ONE was the rallying cry during the brief and successful strike forty years ago (in the summer of 1982) when 20,000 members of Local 23-25 of the ILGWU – most of them Chinese immigrant women – walked off the job. This extraordinary outpouring of energy from the women in the rank and file led to lasting changes in New York’s Chinatown community.
