The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire: Presentation and Pop-Up Exhibit

Join the Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition and Village Preservation for a talk by historian Daniel Levinson Wilk on the historic 1911 fire and its impact on the community and eventually the country and beyond. In “The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire: A Local Tragedy Felt ‘Round the World,” Professor Levinson Wilk takes us back to the Greenwich Village of the early 1900s, with its tenements populated by thousands of immigrant families, and the immigrant laborers, many of whom worked in area sweatshops.

The talk will be accompanied by a pop-up exhibit featuring replica shirtwaists, historic news clippings and photos.

DANIEL LEVINSON WILK is Professor of American History at SUNY-Fashion Institute of Technology and a member of the board of the Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition. He writes about the history of waiters, elevators, and the modern service sector, and is currently working on a book called How To Tip With Style.
